Gunn Teases Superman Sequel Amid Confusion

Entertainment Movies

Following the record-breaking success of the Superman reboot, director James Gunn is already hinting at what’s next for the beloved superhero—though fans are unsure exactly what that means.

In a recent exchange with fans on Threads, Gunn revealed that he’s currently juggling multiple projects, including a press tour for the second season of Peacemaker and scriptwriting duties for another Superman film. “Peacemaker press!! And sequel writing!!!” he wrote, teasing future developments in the DC Universe.

However, Gunn’s mention of a Superman sequel caused some confusion. It appeared to contradict his earlier statements that the next project wouldn’t be a traditional follow-up to the recent Superman film. Previously, Gunn told Deadline that he was working on a new script featuring Superman, but it wouldn’t be a direct sequel. “This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2,” he clarified.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn elaborated, saying, “What I’m working on is, in some way, I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily.”

While the fate of a direct sequel remains uncertain, there’s no denying the current film’s success. According to Deadline, Superman is on track to surpass $300 million at the domestic box office—making it the first superhero film to do so since The Batman in 2022.

Gunn’s vision for Superman continues to evolve, leaving fans eager for clarity—and more cape action.
