Great Wall Motor (GWM), through its electric vehicle arm Ora, has officially launched its latest model—the Ora 5 compact electric SUV—in China.
This marks Ora’s first mass-production SUV and a key step in strengthening its foothold in the fast-growing EV market.
Positioned in the compact SUV category, the Ora 5 combines the brand’s distinct “cat family” styling with advanced smart technology, aiming to challenge established rivals.
Bold Styling and Spacious Dimensions
The Ora 5’s design reflects Ora’s recognizable DNA with a closed grille and signature round headlights but introduces sharper angles for a sportier stance compared to the Ora Good Cat.
Measuring 4,471 mm in length with a generous 2,720 mm wheelbase, the SUV offers superior cabin space and practicality.
Customers can select from six vibrant exterior colors such as Aurora Green and Senna Grey, each inspired by global landmarks, further highlighting its premium appeal.
Smart Features and Advanced Driver Assistance
Technology is a major highlight of the new EV. The Ora 5 integrates a roof-mounted lidar and multiple cameras, enabling the advanced GWM Coffee Pilot Ultra system.
This setup is designed to support high-level driver assistance functions, including Urban and Highway Navigation on Autopilot (NOA).
Inside, the cabin showcases a modern and upscale design with textile finishes, a floating digital instrument cluster, and a large central infotainment screen powered by GWM’s third-generation Coffee OS.
Notably, the system features Coffee GPT with DeepSeek integration, offering more intelligent and interactive voice-based controls.
Additional premium touches include a panoramic glass roof and customizable 64-color ambient lighting.
Powertrain and Performance
The Ora 5 is powered by a 150 kW electric motor paired with an LFP battery pack supplied by SVOLT.
While official driving range figures have not yet been confirmed, expectations are in line with the Ora Lightning Cat sedan, which delivers a competitive performance within its class.
Market Positioning and Rivals
Launching into China’s competitive compact SUV market, the Ora 5 will compete directly with well-established models like the BYD Yuan Plus and Geely Galaxy E5.
By combining eye-catching design, smart features, and strong performance credentials, Ora aims to secure a solid position among compact EV buyers.
Official pricing details are expected soon, but industry experts anticipate the Ora 5 will be competitively priced to attract a wide base of EV customers in China’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle landscape.
