Halle Berry, the iconic actress known for her portrayal of Storm in the X-Men series, recently disclosed why she didn’t return to play the beloved character in Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming film, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Despite an informal suggestion from Blake Lively, the 58-year-old actress clarified that she never received a formal offer to reprise her role.
In an interview, Berry shared an interesting encounter with Blake Lively, who is married to Ryan Reynolds, the star of the Deadpool series. Lively, 36, approached Berry during a Marc Jacobs fashion show and casually asked if she would consider returning as Storm for her husband’s blockbuster movie.
While Berry expressed interest, she emphasized that she would have only taken on the role if Reynolds himself had made the request—a request that, unfortunately, never came.
“Blake Lively asked me one time; I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me,” Berry recounted during the interview.
Berry’s comments have sparked curiosity among fans, especially since the Marvel crossover movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, has been generating significant buzz. The film, which features both Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine, has been eagerly anticipated by Marvel enthusiasts.
However, Berry confirmed that her cameo as Storm was never seriously discussed, much to the disappointment of her fans.
Berry’s portrayal of Storm in the X-Men franchise, where she starred alongside Reynolds and Jackman, remains a standout performance. Her character, with the power to control the weather, became one of the most memorable figures in the Marvel universe. Despite not returning for Deadpool & Wolverine, Berry’s legacy as Storm continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide.
Halle Berry’s decision not to reprise her role as Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine highlights the complexities of casting in major film franchises. While fans may have hoped for her return, Berry’s revelation underscores the importance of formal offers and direct communication in the industry.
Although she won’t be appearing in this Marvel crossover, her iconic portrayal of Storm will continue to resonate with audiences, solidifying her place in the superhero genre’s legacy.
