Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah awarded Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem with a Rs50 million cheque, along with a traditional Ajrak and Sindhi Topi, at a special ceremony held at the CM House in Karachi.
Nadeem’s historic achievement in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics, where he set a new record with a throw of 92.97 meters, has brought immense pride to Pakistan and earned him widespread acclaim.
The ceremony was a celebration of Nadeem’s incredible feat, marking him as a national hero. CM Murad Ali Shah congratulated Nadeem on behalf of the Sindh government and the people of the province.
He acknowledged the athlete’s dedication and perseverance that led to this monumental success. Shah also extended his gratitude to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his support in honoring the Olympian.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of nurturing and supporting talent like Nadeem’s, which can bring international glory to the nation.
Recognizing the vital role of Nadeem’s coach in his success, CM Shah announced an additional Rs5 million reward for the mentor who guided the athlete to Olympic glory.
This gesture highlighted the collaborative effort behind Nadeem’s achievement and the significance of proper coaching and mentorship in sports.
Adding to the honors, Sindh Sports Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar also presented a personal cheque to Arshad Nadeem during the ceremony. The minister lauded Nadeem’s commitment and hard work, which has not only earned him an Olympic gold but has also inspired a generation of young athletes in Pakistan.
Additionally, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani made a significant announcement, pledging to name a road in Karachi after Arshad Nadeem, cementing his legacy in the city’s landscape.
Arshad Nadeem expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the recognition and the overwhelming support from the Sindh government. He specifically thanked CM Murad Ali Shah for his early congratulations and encouragement, even before Nadeem’s Olympic victory was confirmed.
Earlier in the day, the Sindh Governor had also hosted Nadeem at the Governor’s House, celebrating his outstanding achievement and the honor he has brought to Pakistan on the global stage. The recognition from both the Sindh CM and Governor highlights the immense pride the nation feels for its Olympian.
