Islamabad, April 13, 2025 – A sweltering week lies ahead for residents of Islamabad, with dangerously high temperatures sparking growing concerns about the risk of heatstroke.
According to AccuWeather forecasts, the capital is expected to bake under relentless sun and soaring highs ranging from 36°C to 39°C over the next several days.
Meteorologists have issued a caution for all age groups, emphasizing the serious threat of heatstroke as daily highs push RealFeel® temperatures near 40°C. The risk is especially significant for individuals spending extended periods outdoors, such as laborers, children, and the old-age. With UV indexes remaining at “Very High” levels—reaching up to 9 on multiple days—direct sun exposure becomes even more dangerous.
Starting Sunday, April 13, the mercury will climb to a blistering 39°C with clear skies and minimal wind to provide relief. Similar conditions will persist through Wednesday, April 16, accompanied by light southerly and southeasterly winds offering little respite. Even slight cloud cover midweek is unlikely to temper the intensity of the heat or the threat of heatstroke.
Health officials are urging citizens to stay hydrated, wear loose clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak sun hours. They’ve also advised checking on vulnerable neighbors and using air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has yet to issue a formal heatwave alert, but experts warn that climate trends point to increasing occurrences of heatstroke events in urban areas like Islamabad. Residents are being encouraged to treat the current weather pattern with caution and to act early to prevent the potentially fatal consequences of heatstroke.
With temperatures showing no signs of relief, Islamabad must brace itself for a tough week ahead—and take every step necessary to stay safe from heatstroke.
