Heavy rainfall continues to lash Islamabad: weather May 26, 2025

Monsoon Rainfall

Islamabad, May 25, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh alert forecasting the continuation of heavy rainfall in Islamabad, which has already been witnessing unsettled weather conditions over the past few days.

The updated advisory warns that this spell of heavy rainfall is expected to persist into Monday evening and night, posing risks to infrastructure and public safety.

According to the PMD, weather in Islamabad on Monday, May 26, 2025, will remain hot and dry during daytime, but by evening, the capital may experience rain accompanied by windstorms or thunderstorms. The department has specifically mentioned the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and strong winds that could impact vulnerable structures such as electric poles, trees, solar panels, and parked vehicles. The probability of such weather events stands at 45%.

On Sunday, May 25, Islamabad experienced partly cloudy conditions with intermittent rain and thunderstorms expected in the afternoon. The PMD reported heavy rainfall in several areas, including Islamabad City (38mm), Golra (13mm), Bokra (6mm), and the Airport area (5mm). These weather conditions disrupted daily life and led to minor urban flooding in low-lying areas.

The PMD has issued a cautionary note, urging citizens in Islamabad and surrounding regions to remain alert, particularly during the night when the likelihood of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms is higher. Authorities have been advised to take preventive measures to minimize damage from strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning strikes.

At the national level, the weather department indicated that moist currents are currently entering the upper and central parts of Pakistan, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting the region. A stronger westerly system is expected to move in from the west by Monday night, which may intensify weather activity, especially in northern areas including Islamabad.

On Sunday, hot and dry conditions prevailed across most parts of the country, but rain and thunderstorms occurred in areas such as Kashmir, Northeast Punjab, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Monday’s forecast anticipates a similar pattern, with heavy rainfall expected at isolated places across Islamabad, Potohar region, and northern Balochistan.

As the monsoon-like pattern begins to take hold earlier than usual, residents of Islamabad are urged to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
