Islamabad, August 3, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall for Islamabad on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
According to the PMD’s weather forecast, heavy rainfall accompanied by windstorms and thundershowers is expected in various regions including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, the Potohar Region, Kashmir, Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The PMD specifically highlighted the likelihood of heavy rainfall in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, upper/northeast Punjab, the Potohar Region, northeastern/southern Balochistan, and Kashmir.
The PMD has issued warnings that torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Bannu, Kurrum, Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, the hill torrents of D.G. Khan, and Kashmir. Similar concerns have been raised for Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Zhob, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Awaran, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Jhal Magsi, Naseerabad, Musa Khel, and Jaffarabad in Balochistan.
Urban flooding is anticipated in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, Nowshera, and Peshawar on August 3 and 4. In Sindh, urban flooding is also a concern for low-lying regions. Landslides may cause road closures in hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.
The PMD’s synoptic situation indicates that strong monsoon currents are currently penetrating from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal into most central and southern parts of the country, with expected movement into upper parts by evening. Additionally, a westerly wave is likely to impact the northern regions from tonight.
For Saturday, August 3, 2024, the PMD predicts more rainfall with windstorms or thundershowers in Sindh, northeastern/southern Balochistan, Kashmir, Punjab, the Potohar Region, Islamabad, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy rainfall is expected in Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern/southern Balochistan, northeast Punjab, and Kashmir.
In the past 24 hours, isolated heavy rainfall with wind or thundershowers occurred in Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Kashmir. Notable rainfall measurements include 80 mm in Islamabad (Golra), 71 mm in Rahim Yar Khan, and 66 mm in Sukkur.
The highest maximum temperatures recorded today were 44°C in Nokundi and 43°C in Dalbandin and Chilas.
