Islamabad, July 7, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has sounded a serious alert for the upper regions of the country, warning of heavy rains over the next two days that could result in dangerous flash floods and landslides.
According to the PMD, strong monsoon currents are sweeping across much of Pakistan, while a westerly wave is also influencing weather patterns in the central and southern areas. This powerful combination is expected to unleash intense rains across key regions, especially on July 7 and 8.
The weather advisory states that heavy to very heavy rains may lead to flash floods in local nullahs and streams in areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and across parts of northeastern Punjab and Balochistan. The hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and parts of Kashmir are also at serious risk.
Additionally, the PMD cautioned that the combination of saturated soil and continuing rains could trigger landslides and mudslides, potentially blocking roads in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir. In urban settings, the downpour is likely to cause urban floods, especially in low-lying zones of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Peshawar.
The public has been advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions during this intense weather spell. Farmers, travelers, and residents in vulnerable areas should monitor updates closely to avoid being caught in sudden floods or dangerous road conditions.
