Islamabad, May 26, 2025 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a strong likelihood of a thunderstorm in Islamabad on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Residents of the capital city are advised to brace for sudden changes in weather, especially during the evening and night hours.
According to the PMD, the weather in Islamabad during the daytime is expected to remain hot and partly cloudy. However, conditions will shift later in the day as rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms are expected to develop, with a 60% probability. The forecast also warns of the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms in the region.
The PMD added that on Monday, May 26, hot and dry weather is expected to persist throughout the day in Islamabad and its surrounding areas, with no significant precipitation predicted.
On a broader scale, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are beginning to penetrate into the upper and central parts of Pakistan. Additionally, a new westerly wave is expected to enter the western and upper regions of the country by Monday evening or night, further increasing the chances of unsettled weather conditions.
Nationally, Monday is likely to remain hot and dry across most regions. However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by rain and wind are expected in parts of Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan during the late hours.
For Tuesday, the PMD predicts similar hot and dry conditions for most of the country during the day. But by evening, several regions — including Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Balochistan — are likely to experience thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall. Localized heavy downpours and hail may also occur.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather dominated much of the country, with extreme heat reported in the plains. The highest temperatures recorded were 46°C in Nokkundi, Sakrand, Chhor, and Mithi, while several other cities including Jacobabad and Turbat reported highs of 45°C.
The PMD continues to monitor the evolving weather pattern closely and urges citizens in Islamabad to stay updated with official advisories, particularly due to the repeated risk of thunderstorm activity this week.
