Islamabad, March 12, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather forecast indicating a high probability of thunderstorms in Islamabad and its surrounding areas over the next 24 hours.
The department has cautioned residents to stay prepared for potential rain and strong winds accompanying the expected thunderstorm activity.
According to the PMD, Islamabad’s weather is likely to remain partly cloudy throughout the day on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. However, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is expected in the evening or nighttime, with a probability of 55%. The weather pattern is attributed to a shallow westerly wave currently affecting the upper regions of the country.
For Thursday, March 13, 2025, the PMD has forecasted similar weather conditions in Islamabad. The city is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with an increased likelihood of rain, wind, and thunderstorms. The probability of a thunderstorm occurring on Thursday stands at 60%, making it highly likely that the capital will witness unsettled weather conditions.
National Weather Outlook
At a broader level, the PMD has provided a weather outlook for different regions of Pakistan over the next two days:
• Wednesday, March 12, 2025: Most parts of the country will experience dry and partly cloudy weather. However, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm activity, with snowfall over high-altitude regions, is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of upper Punjab during the afternoon and evening.
• Thursday, March 13, 2025: Similar weather conditions will persist, with dry and partly cloudy weather prevailing in most areas. However, the likelihood of rain-wind/thunderstorms will remain in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Punjab.
Recent Weather Observations
During the past 24 hours, Islamabad and other regions experienced partly cloudy weather. However, isolated rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of the Pothohar region, including Islamabad.
In Islamabad, recorded rainfall was as follows: Zeropoint received 3mm, while Islamabad Airport, Golra, Saidpur received 2mm each, and Bokra recorded 1mm of rainfall. Other areas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern regions also experienced varying levels of precipitation.
The lowest temperature recorded today was -3°C in Leh, while Gupis and Parachinar reported -1°C.
With the likelihood of multiple thunderstorms in Islamabad over the next two days, residents are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
