The Charmed star said family commitments and increasingly uninteresting roles influenced her decision to leave show business.

Charmed alum Holly Marie Combs has announced her retirement from acting, saying she no longer found the roles coming her way interesting enough to continue.

The 52-year-old actress revealed the decision while appearing on the latest episode of The House of Halliwell podcast, where she reflected on her career and the factors that ultimately led her to step away from Hollywood.

“I’m retired,” Combs said, explaining that family played a major role in her decision. She recalled the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, when she was raising three teenagers and a preteen at home.

Combs said the experience brought considerable “mayhem and chaos” and prompted her to reassess her priorities.

She also admitted that the acting opportunities available to her had become less appealing over time.

“The stuff that I was getting and coming across my desk was just nothing that I was like: ‘Oh my gosh, this is really great. I need to do this,’” the actress explained.

Combs further pointed to the challenges actresses can face as they get older, saying that the number of available roles becomes increasingly limited.

“And being in, you know, that 40 to 50 range, the job pool gets even smaller and smaller. And I feel like the roles get a little less interesting,” she said.

Despite retiring, Combs acknowledged that she occasionally misses performing. She explained that acting offered her an opportunity to become fully immersed in another character and temporarily escape from everyday life.

 “I miss it occasionally,” she said, describing the experience of acting as a form of escapism that allows performers to become absorbed in different characters and situations.

According to Combs, there is something peaceful about being completely present while acting, even when portraying highly dramatic scenes.

The actress is best known for playing Piper Halliwell in the supernatural drama Charmed, which ran for eight seasons and became one of her most recognised television roles.

Her latest comments suggest that, for now, Combs is choosing to prioritise her family and personal life rather than return to an acting industry where she feels the opportunities have become less compelling.
