Islamabad, September 5, 2024 – Hot and dry weather is expected to prevail across most parts of Pakistan on Friday, September 6, 2024, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The forecast highlights a widespread heatwave, with limited regions experiencing isolated rainfall.
The Pakistan Met revealed that the majority of the country would experience high temperatures, with hot and dry conditions dominating the weather patterns. However, there is a chance of rain, accompanied by wind and thundershowers, in select areas of North East Punjab, the Potohar region, Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. These areas could witness brief, scattered rainfall later in the day.
In terms of the synoptic situation, the weather authority stated that a shallow westerly wave is present over the upper parts of Pakistan. This weather system is likely to affect these regions starting from the evening or night of Thursday, September 5, 2024. This westerly wave may lead to occasional rain in certain areas, but it will have minimal impact on the overall hot and dry conditions expected nationwide.
Thursday, September 5, 2024, is expected to follow a similar pattern, with mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of Pakistan. Nevertheless, scattered rain and thundershowers are anticipated in parts of Kashmir, the Potohar region, North East Punjab, and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Over the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms were reported in areas of Southeast Sindh, North East Punjab, and Khuzdar. The recorded rainfall (in millimeters) included Nagarparkar (12mm), Mithi (4mm), and Islamkot (3mm) in Sindh, along with Thatta (2mm). Sialkot, in Punjab, received 1mm of rainfall, and Khuzdar, Balochistan, also recorded 1mm of rain.
As for maximum temperatures, Nokkundi in Balochistan recorded the highest temperature on Thursday at 41°C, followed closely by Sibbi and Dalbandin at 40°C. Bhakkar and Dadu also recorded high temperatures of 39°C, contributing to the ongoing hot spell.
Residents are advised to take precautions against the hot weather, particularly in the regions expected to experience extreme heat. Those in areas forecasted to receive rainfall should remain cautious of potential localized flooding or disruptions due to thunderstorms.
