PMD forecasts widespread heat conditions with isolated rain and thunderstorms in northern regions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast predominantly hot and dry weather across most regions of the country over the next 24 hours, with only isolated northern areas likely to receive rain and thunderstorm activity.

According to the latest forecast, hot and dry conditions will persist across the majority of districts. However, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeastern Punjab may experience rain-wind and thunderstorms at scattered locations.

Meteorologists said these weather systems could bring temporary relief from rising temperatures in some northern and hilly areas.

Major Cities Continue to Experience High Temperatures

The PMD reported that temperatures remained high across major cities, with Karachi recording 30°C, making it the warmest among the key urban centres.

Lahore and Peshawar recorded 29°C and 28°C respectively, while Islamabad and Muzaffarabad both stood at 21°C. Quetta recorded 23°C, Gilgit 17°C, and Murree remained the coolest at 14°C.

Rain-Wind and Thunderstorms Likely in Northern Regions

The weather outlook for Kashmir indicates partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with chances of rain, wind and thunderstorms in several areas including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian and Baramula.

Weather officials warned that sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds could occur in these areas, urging residents to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Cooler Conditions in Kashmir and High-Altitude Areas

In Jammu and Kashmir, relatively cooler weather was observed, with Srinagar, Pulwama and Anantnag recording around 16°C.

Jammu remained comparatively warmer at 27°C, while Leh recorded the lowest temperature at 7°C. Shopian and Baramula stood at 15°C, reflecting typical cold conditions in higher-altitude regions.

Outlook Remains Mostly Hot and Dry

Weather experts expect hot and dry conditions to continue dominating most parts of Pakistan in the coming days. However, northern areas may continue to see intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity due to local weather systems.
