HBO has officially renewed House of the Dragon for a fourth season, set to premiere in 2028, just ahead of the highly anticipated season three launch in summer 2026.
The announcement was made during a presentation by HBO CEO Casey Bloys, who also confirmed that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will return for a second season.
Francesca Orsi, HBO’s EVP of programming and head of drama series and films, expressed excitement over the upcoming seasons. “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe,” she said.
Orsi highlighted the vast storytelling potential of George R.R. Martin’s world, adding, “Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be.”
She also teased what fans can expect from the upcoming releases: “In January, audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”
With season three just around the corner, the renewed seasons signal HBO’s commitment to expanding the Game of Thrones universe. Fans can look forward to epic battles, intricate politics, and rich storytelling as the saga continues to unfold over the next few years.
