How much fuel Pakistan has now? Petrol monitoring committee explains

petrol shortage

Islamabad, March 16, 2026 – Pakistan currently has comfortable stocks of crude oil and petroleum products, with supply arrangements secured until mid-April, according to officials briefing the government’s petrol monitoring body on Monday.

The update came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee to Monitor Petrol Prices, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, which reviewed the country’s petroleum stock position and import plans amid evolving regional developments.

The meeting was attended by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, along with senior officials from relevant ministries and regulatory authorities.

Pakistan’s petroleum supply position

Officials informed the committee that Pakistan’s fuel requirements for March have been fully secured, with sufficient stocks of crude oil and refined petroleum products available nationwide.

Based on existing cargo schedules and supply arrangements, the country’s petroleum coverage currently extends until mid-April, while authorities are working to expand supply coverage further towards the end of April.

The committee reviewed detailed data on national inventories of crude oil, petrol, and diesel, as well as import arrangements and maritime logistics supporting the fuel supply chain.

Government moves to diversify fuel imports

The meeting also examined procurement strategies in light of regional geopolitical developments affecting global energy markets.

Officials told the committee that Pakistan is actively diversifying its petroleum import sources to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on any single supply route.

The strategy includes expanding procurement from a wider range of international suppliers and improving logistics planning to ensure uninterrupted fuel deliveries.

Government urges public not to panic buy fuel

Speaking during the meeting, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized that the government remains fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted availability of petroleum products across Pakistan.

He said the current stock position and supply outlook remain stable, adding that there is no justification for panic buying or stockpiling fuel.

The committee directed authorities, in coordination with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and provincial governments, to closely monitor fuel stocks and market activity.

Officials were instructed to take strict action against any attempts to create artificial shortages or hoarding of petroleum products.

Daily monitoring of fuel stocks continues

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability in the energy market through continuous monitoring of petroleum stocks, import flows, and supply chain conditions.

Authorities said the petrol monitoring committee will continue holding daily review meetings to assess developments in the energy sector and ensure smooth fuel supply across the country.

The government also stressed that transparent communication and timely information would remain key to maintaining public confidence in Pakistan’s energy supply system.
