Huawei officially kicked off its annual Developer Conference with a major announcement—HarmonyOS 6.

Executive Director Richard Yu led the event, unveiling the newest iteration of the company’s in-house operating system, packed with refined design elements and innovative artificial intelligence enhancements.

The standout addition in HarmonyOS 6 is the Intelligent Agent Framework, a new AI-based system designed to enable more natural and human-like interaction between users and the OS. This upgrade powers the improved personal assistant, XiaoYi, allowing it to understand context and respond intelligently, rather than relying solely on preset voice commands.

XiaoYi is equipped with advanced capabilities such as scanning your entire smartphone screen to provide relevant results—mirroring features like Google’s Circle to Search. On stage, Huawei demonstrated how the AI framework can be used for practical tasks, including using ChatExcel for spreadsheet assistance or helping developers build HarmonyOS apps more efficiently.

Another notable feature introduced is “Touch and Share,” which enables seamless file transfers and cross-device collaboration between compatible Huawei smartphones and PCs. While Huawei has not yet confirmed the exact list of supported devices, this functionality is expected to be exclusive to Huawei’s ecosystem, offering effortless sharing and even multiplayer gaming via a simple tap of the phone on a computer screen.

To support app development on the new platform, Huawei also launched the HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta Program. Interested developers can enroll through the Huawei Developer Alliance, with sign-ups open until June 30.

The Beta is currently available for a select group of Huawei devices, including the Mate 70 and Mate 70 Pro, Mate 60 and Mate 60 Pro, the foldable Mate X5, and tablets like the MatePad Pro 11-inch (2024) and MatePad Pro 13.2-inch (2025).

With HarmonyOS 6, Huawei is doubling down on AI integration and cross-device synergy, reinforcing its ambition to build a cohesive digital ecosystem independent of Western platforms. The final release date for the public rollout has yet to be announced.
