Huawei appears ready to build on the success of its unique foldable smartphone, the Huawei Pura X, with a next-generation model reportedly in development.

According to fresh leaks from China, the company is already working on the Huawei Pura X2, which may arrive as early as the first quarter of next year.

The original Pura X launched in March and stood out immediately due to its unconventional design. Unlike traditional clamshell foldables that mirror the compact Flip-style format, Huawei introduced a wider 16:10 aspect ratio when unfolded. This made the device significantly broader than any Flip released so far, offering a different user experience and improved usability for apps and multitasking.

Now, it seems Huawei’s experimental approach has paid off. Industry insiders claim the Pura X2 will continue this design philosophy while bringing upgraded hardware.

The upcoming model is rumored to feature the new Kirin 9030 chipset, a natural progression from the Kirin 9020 powering the current Pura X. This upgrade is expected to deliver better performance, improved efficiency, and enhanced AI capabilities, aligning with Huawei’s ongoing focus on in-house chip development despite external challenges.

While full specifications remain under wraps, the early launch window—anytime between January and March—suggests that Huawei may soon begin testing and certification phases. As with most foldable devices, users can expect refinements in hinge durability, screen quality, and battery efficiency, though no concrete details have surfaced yet.

The original Pura X generated buzz for its bold form factor, proving there is room for innovation beyond the standard vertical foldable template. With the Pura X2 reportedly on the way, Huawei seems committed to expanding its foldable lineup and competing more aggressively in this rapidly evolving segment.

More leaks and official teasers are likely in the coming months as Huawei prepares to unveil the Pura X2.
