Huawei is set to broaden its automotive footprint with the upcoming launch of the Stelato S9 Estate, its first-ever station wagon.

Recently spotted testing on Chinese roads, this sleek estate model is based on the Stelato S9 sedan and aims to tap into the fast-growing New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market segment in China.

Developed in collaboration with BAIC under the Stelato brand, the S9 Estate is expected to debut later this year.

While the original Stelato S9 sedan sold 8,911 units between October 2024 and May 2025, falling short of its 120,000-unit annual target, Huawei is recalibrating its strategy.

The company has introduced a more affordable Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) sedan variant and now shifts focus to the station wagon, an increasingly popular body style among NEV buyers in China.

Station wagons have gained traction for offering better aerodynamics and range efficiency compared to larger SUVs. Competitors like Zeekr with its 001 and 007 GT models, Nio with the ET5 Touring, and BYD with the Denza Z9 GT have already capitalized on this trend. Huawei’s Stelato S9 Estate aims to capture this demand with its blend of practicality and smart design.

Design-wise, the Stelato S9 Estate closely resembles the sedan version. Key features include sharp LED headlights, a trapezoidal air intake, sloping bonnet, hidden door handles, frameless mirrors, and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The sleek roofline enhances its aerodynamic profile, aligning with consumer preferences for futuristic styling.

Inside, the cabin mirrors the sedan’s minimalist layout. A 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and a D-shaped three-spoke steering wheel provide a modern interface.

The center console includes dual wireless charging pads and a concealed storage area with cup holders, underlining the vehicle’s user-friendly appeal.

The Stelato S9 Estate is expected to share powertrain specs with the sedan. The BEV version offers rear-wheel (227 kW/304 hp) and all-wheel-drive (385 kW/516 hp) options, powered by a 100-kWh CATL battery delivering 721–816 km CLTC range.

The EREV variant combines a 227 kW electric motor with a 1.5-liter petrol engine and provides up to 1,355 km combined range.

Priced between 309,800 and 449,800 yuan ($43,190–$62,700), the Stelato S9 Estate combines Huawei’s advanced ADS 4.0 driver assistance system and premium styling, marking a strong entry into China’s competitive NEV station wagon segment.
