The ICC has announced the match officials for the Super 8s stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, marking a significant milestone for the USA as they participate in their first-ever knockout match.
This historic game will see Chris Gaffaney and Richard Kettleborough serving as the on-field umpires when the USA faces South Africa on June 19.
The USA, co-hosts of the tournament, secured their place in the Super 8s after an impressive Super Over victory against Pakistan, finishing second in Group A. They will now compete in Group 2 against South Africa, England, and fellow co-hosts West Indies.
Joel Wilson has been appointed as the TV Umpire for the USA vs. South Africa match and will join Gaffaney as an on-field umpire for the USA vs. England game in Barbados on June 23. Making his senior men’s tournament debut, Allahudien Paleker will serve as the fourth umpire.
On June 19, Kettleborough will also officiate the crucial Group 1 clash between Australia and India alongside Richard Illingworth.
For Australia’s Super 8s opener against Bangladesh, Illingworth will team up with Michael Gough, while Nitin Menon and Ahsan Raza will oversee the England vs. West Indies match.
Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, the first Bangladeshi official to participate in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will act as the TV Umpire for the England-West Indies game and as an on-field umpire alongside Chris Brown for England’s second Group 2 match against South Africa.
Veteran match referee Jeff Crowe will officiate key matches including England vs. West Indies, England vs. South Africa, and Australia vs. India.
