London’s iconic Oval ground set to host the ICC World Test Championship Final from June 9 to June 13, 2027
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially unveiled the venue and schedule for the World Test Championship 2027 Final, confirming that London’s historic The Oval will stage the marquee event from June 9 to June 13, 2027.
The announcement reinforces England’s status as the permanent host of the World Test Championship deciders for the foreseeable future.
Last year, the ICC awarded the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) the hosting rights for the next three WTC Finals, covering the 2027, 2029 and 2031 editions. Under the agreement, the ECB will determine the venue for each championship match.
The Oval is no stranger to hosting major Test cricket events. The renowned London venue previously welcomed the 2023 World Test Championship Final, where Australia defeated India to secure their maiden WTC crown. The ground’s rich cricketing heritage and ability to attract large crowds made it a natural choice for another championship showdown.
As the current WTC 2025-27 cycle enters a decisive phase, the battle for a place in the final remains wide open. Australia have established themselves as the early frontrunners, leading the standings with a points percentage of 87.50 after winning seven of their opening eight Tests.
Defending champions South Africa occupy second position on 75 percent, while New Zealand remain in close pursuit with 72.22 percent. Bangladesh have also strengthened their credentials following a dominant 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan, lifting them to fourth place with 58.33 percent.
India, runners-up in the first two WTC cycles, currently sit fifth with 48.15 percent, while Sri Lanka remain within striking distance on 41.67 percent. England, West Indies and Pakistan face a challenging road ahead and must secure significant victories in upcoming series to revive their hopes of reaching the final.
The race is expected to intensify over the coming months with several crucial Test series on the calendar. Pakistan’s tour of England, Australia’s series against Bangladesh, and the highly anticipated India-Sri Lanka contest could all have a major impact on the standings.
Since its launch, the World Test Championship has produced three different champions. New Zealand won the inaugural title in 2021, Australia lifted the mace in 2023, and South Africa claimed a historic triumph in 2025. The 2027 edition now promises another thrilling chapter in Test cricket’s premier competition.
