The Ice Age franchise is officially returning with its seventh feature-length film, now titled Ice Age: Boiling Point, which will premiere in February 2027.
The long-running animated series, beloved for its prehistoric humor and heartfelt storytelling, will once again follow Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo), Manny the mammoth (Ray Romano), and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary) as they embark on a brand-new adventure.
The sequel was first announced in 2024, nearly ten years after Ice Age: Collision Course (2016). Disney confirmed the film’s title and revised release date during its D23 event, revealing that the movie has been pushed back from December 2026 to early 2027. Returning cast members include Leguizamo, Romano, and Leary, alongside Simon Pegg as Buck Wild and Queen Latifah as Ellie.
According to Disney’s announcement, Ice Age: Boiling Point will take the herd to unexplored corners of the Lost World, the underground realm of dinosaurs previously featured in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009) and the spinoff The Adventures of Buck Wild (2022). While plot specifics are still under wraps, the title hints at potential themes of rising temperatures or heightened tensions within the group.
Since its debut in 2002, the Ice Age franchise has grossed billions worldwide and remained a family favorite across generations. Each installment blends comedy, action, and emotional storytelling, often with loose connections to real prehistoric events. While The Meltdown (2006) tackled global warming and Collision Course (2016) dealt with a looming asteroid, Boiling Point could symbolize a new environmental threat—or simply a clever metaphor for escalating character dynamics.
Despite the slight release delay, production appears to be on schedule, with more updates and possibly the first teaser expected in the coming months.
