Independence Day: PM Shehbaz Pledges Economic Stability

Karachi, August 14, 2024 – On the occasion of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged to continue efforts for a stable and prosperous economy, highlighting the government’s recent achievements in reducing inflation and fostering economic growth.

In a message to the nation, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his commitment to collective action for an inclusive Pakistan. He emphasized that the government’s policies were already delivering results, noting a significant drop in inflation from 38% to 11.1% in July, with the goal of reducing it to single digits soon.

The prime minister extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the country’s forefathers and the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, which led to the creation of Pakistan as an independent state on August 14, 1947. He acknowledged the resilience of the Pakistani people, who have endured natural disasters and economic challenges, yet remained steadfast in their determination to build a better future.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed confidence that the nation would continue to work together to ensure the welfare of its citizens. He also recognized the crucial role played by overseas Pakistanis in the country’s development, praising their hard work and contributions as true ambassadors of Pakistan.

The prime minister expressed gratitude to the armed forces for their role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting its sovereignty. He also extended solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and Palestine, who have been fighting for their right to self-determination for decades. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for their struggles.

Reflecting on the challenges facing Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz acknowledged the difficulties posed by inflation, high energy costs, unemployment, and a growing debt burden. He emphasized that since taking office after the February 2024 elections, the government’s focus has been on creating the right conditions for economic growth and stability.

The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s rich natural resources and youthful workforce as key assets for the country’s future. He stated that the government is taking steps to attract investments, create job opportunities, accelerate industrialization, and bring economic prosperity. He also emphasized the importance of education and skill development in empowering the nation’s youth to compete in the global economy.
