India all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the remainder of the ODI series against New Zealand after experiencing acute discomfort in his left lower rib while bowling during the first ODI at BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday.

Sundar is set to undergo further scans, after which the BCCI medical team will consult experts to assess the severity of the injury.

In response, Ayush Badoni has been named as Sundar’s replacement. The 24-year-old receives his maiden call-up to the Indian ODI squad and will join the team in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI of the series.

Sundar remains part of India’s T20 World Cup squad, with India scheduled to play five T20Is against New Zealand following the ODI series, as both teams gear up for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Apart from Sundar, Tilak Varma is also recovering from an injury and will miss the first three T20Is against New Zealand.
