Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive 81 and disciplined bowling seal a comprehensive series sweep for the world champions
India completed a commanding 3-0 whitewash over Zimbabwe in the three-match T20 International series with another dominant display at the Harare Sports Club, reaffirming their status as the world’s top-ranked T20I side and reigning world champions.
Captain Shreyas Iyer led a youthful Indian side that outclassed Zimbabwe in all departments throughout the series, extending their impressive run in the shortest format.
Sooryavanshi powers India to imposing total
India laid the foundation for victory with an outstanding innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who struck a superb 81 off 49 balls to anchor the batting effort.
He received useful support from Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer, while Rinku Singh added late impetus with a brisk 25 from 14 deliveries, helping India post a formidable total.
Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the visitors, although Blessing Muzarabani impressed again with figures of 1-33. Brad Evans claimed two wickets, while Sikandar Raza and Wessly Madhevere picked up one each.
Zimbabwe fall short despite Burl’s resistance
Chasing a challenging target, Zimbabwe lost three wickets during the powerplay but maintained a healthy scoring rate to reach 53-3, thanks largely to Ben Curran and Dion Myers.
A 60-run partnership between Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere briefly revived Zimbabwe’s hopes, but Madhevere’s dismissal shifted the momentum firmly back in India’s favour.
Burl continued to fight, finishing unbeaten on 54, but he received little support from the other end as Zimbabwe fell well short of the target.
Indian bowlers complete clinical victory
India’s bowling attack once again delivered a disciplined performance despite a few dropped catches in the field.
Mayank Yadav made an immediate impact by claiming a wicket with the opening delivery of Zimbabwe’s innings before returning to finish with three wickets.
Yash Thakur struck twice in a crucial over to put the hosts under pressure, while Ravi Bishnoi maintained his impressive form with economical figures of 1-24. Ashok Sharma also celebrated his maiden T20I wicket as India comfortably wrapped up the match.
Sooryavanshi sweeps individual honours
For his outstanding performances throughout the series, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named both Player of the Match and Player of the Series.
The young opener amassed 151 runs in three matches at a remarkable strike rate of 196.10.
Speaking after the presentation, Sooryavanshi said he felt comfortable batting in Zimbabwe, having previously played there during the ICC Under-19 World Cup. He credited the support of the coaching staff and captain and said his aim was to play positively while converting good starts into substantial innings.
He described winning both awards for India as a dream come true.
Bishnoi credits preparation
Spinner Ravi Bishnoi said hard work with the coaching staff had helped improve his bowling during the series.
He noted that Zimbabwean conditions, where the ball tends to skid and stay low, suited his style of bowling, while the large boundaries also provided greater opportunities for bowlers.
Iyer praises fearless youngsters
India captain Shreyas Iyer praised the fearless approach shown by the team’s young players throughout the series.
He said many of the youngsters had already gained valuable experience through the Indian Premier League and had responded impressively on the international stage.
“The biggest takeaway is the fearless attitude the youngsters have shown,” Iyer said. “Our aim is to keep raising our standards with every game rather than focusing only on results.”
Zimbabwe seek positives despite defeat
Before the post-match presentations, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza was honoured for becoming his country’s most-capped player across all formats.
Raza acknowledged India’s superiority but highlighted the emergence of promising young players, including Newman Nyamhuri, as a positive outcome from the series.
He also admitted he needed to contribute more with the bat and expressed hope that Zimbabwe would continue improving through regular fixtures against leading international teams.
Meanwhile, Ryan Burl and Brian Bennett received commemorative awards after both reached the milestone of 2,000 T20I runs for Zimbabwe.
India now turn their attention to a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning in Galle on 15 August, while Zimbabwe will next host Australia in a three-match ODI series starting on 15 September in Harare.
