PMD forecasts evening thundershowers in the capital while heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods and urban flooding in several regions
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by wind and thundershowers for Islamabad on Monday, July 27, 2026, with weather conditions expected to deteriorate during the evening and night.
According to the PMD, hot and humid weather is expected to prevail in Islamabad and adjoining areas during the day. However, partly cloudy skies with rain, wind and thundershowers are likely to develop later in the evening and at night, with a 45% probability of precipitation.
For Sunday night, the Met Office has forecast partly cloudy weather with isolated rain, wind and thundershowers in Islamabad and surrounding areas, carrying a 30% chance of rainfall.
PMD issues heavy rainfall warning
The PMD has warned that heavy rainfall during Sunday night and Monday morning could trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan and north-eastern Balochistan.
The department also cautioned that intense rainfall may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot and Sahiwal.
Weather outlook across Pakistan
According to the PMD, a low-pressure area (LPA) previously located over western Rajasthan has weakened. However, weak moist currents continue to penetrate the central and eastern parts of Pakistan, supporting rain activity in several regions.
On Sunday, rain, wind and thundershowers are expected in south-eastern Sindh, Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and north-eastern Balochistan. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of south-eastern Sindh and eastern Punjab.
For Monday, mainly hot and humid weather is expected across most parts of the country. Nevertheless, isolated rain and thundershowers are forecast in north-eastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south-eastern Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Heavy rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours
The PMD reported widespread rain and thundershowers, including isolated heavy falls, across Punjab, Sindh, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan during the past 24 hours.
Among the highest rainfall totals recorded were:
• Noor Pur Thal: 140 mm
• Barkhan: 43 mm
• Joharabad: 40 mm
• Faisalabad: 26 mm
• Pattan: 20 mm
• Kasur: 20 mm
• Thatta: 17 mm
• Chhor: 14 mm
• Multan Airport: 14 mm
• Peshawar City: 13 mm
Light to moderate rainfall was also recorded in Attock, Khanewal, Karachi, Sukkur, Gilgit, Gupis, Babusar, Skardu and several other locations.
Meanwhile, Nokkundi recorded the country’s highest maximum temperature at 45°C, followed by Dalbandin at 44°C.
The PMD has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert to changing weather conditions and follow official advisories, particularly in locations at risk of flash floods and urban flooding.
