Industry gets Rs12.13 billion electricity relief in two months under surplus package

Islamabad, February 21, 2026 — The Power Division announced that industrial consumers in Pakistan received electricity tariff relief worth Rs12.125 billion during December 2025 and January 2026 under the government’s Industrial Surplus Electricity Package.

According to official figures, 127,686 industrial units—46 percent of the country’s 278,961 industries—benefited from the initiative, aimed at promoting industrial activity and boosting production capacity. Both small and large-scale industries received a discounted rate of Rs10.3 per unit on additional surplus electricity consumption.

During the two-month period, a total of 1,176 million units were supplied under the surplus package, accounting for 23.8 percent of total industrial electricity consumption. In December 2025, 557 million units were sold under the package, providing Rs5.743 billion in financial relief to 125,829 industrial consumers, or 45 percent of the total industrial base.

January 2026 saw industries consume 619 million units under the package, representing 24.5 percent of industrial electricity sales for the month. Financial relief for January amounted to Rs6.382 billion, benefiting 127,686 industrial consumers.

The Power Division spokesperson emphasized Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari’s personal commitment to supporting the industrial sector, noting that he closely monitors the implementation and progress of the Industrial Surplus Electricity Package to ensure maximum impact for industrial growth.
