Davos, January 23, 2026 – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed that he will visit Pakistan in the near future, reaffirming world football’s governing body’s commitment to reviving and developing the sport in the country.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 56th annual World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Davos on Thursday, Infantino revealed that he has already conveyed his intention to travel to Pakistan and hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The planned visit marks a significant step toward re-engaging Pakistan with the global football community after years of administrative challenges.
Infantino expressed strong optimism over recent progress within the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), noting that the federation has finally moved in a positive direction following long-awaited governance reforms. He praised the newly appointed leadership, saying it has brought much-needed stability after a prolonged period of uncertainty.
“I will come to Pakistan very soon. I promised the prime minister,” Infantino said. “We now have a new president of the federation who is doing a fantastic job.”
Calling Pakistan a “great football country,” the FIFA chief emphasized his vision of elevating Pakistan’s football standing across Asia. “We need to bring Pakistan to the top of Asia for sure. We are working on that,” he added.
Pakistan football has endured repeated setbacks in recent years due to internal disputes, court cases, and governance issues, which led to international isolation and multiple FIFA interventions. However, the establishment of a new leadership structure has restored confidence among stakeholders and reopened doors for international cooperation.
Infantino’s visit is expected to focus on strengthening football governance, expanding grassroots and youth development programmes, and improving infrastructure. Officials believe the high-profile engagement could play a pivotal role in revitalising football in Pakistan and unlocking fresh opportunities at both domestic and international levels.
