Bangladesh’s journey in the Asia Cup 2023 has hit a roadblock with the unfortunate sidelining of their leading run-scorer, Najmul Hossain Shanto. Shanto’s stellar performance came to an abrupt halt when a hamstring injury forced him out of the tournament.

During his remarkable innings of 104 against Afghanistan in the Group Asia Cup clash in Lahore on September 3, Shanto felt discomfort in his left hamstring.

A subsequent MRI scan confirmed a muscle tear, prompting the BCB medical team to prescribe rest, prioritizing his readiness for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, mere weeks away.

National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan shed light on the situation, explaining, “Shanto complained of hamstring pain while batting and couldn’t continue fielding. An MRI scan confirmed a muscle tear. To ensure his full recovery and preparation for the World Cup, Shanto will not participate in the remainder of the tournament and will return home for rehabilitation.”

Although no replacement has been designated for Shanto as of now, the return of Litton Das, who has recuperated from a bout of fever, is anticipated to provide a substantial boost to the squad.
