Islamabad, December 30, 2025 – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has dismissed an inspector posted at Regional Tax Office (RTO)-I Karachi for illegally accessing and misusing taxpayers’ data.

According to an official notification issued on Tuesday, disciplinary action was taken against Mr. Muhammad Khalid, Inspector Inland Revenue, after an inquiry proved charges of inefficiency and misconduct. The case relates to unauthorized access to the FBR’s electronic database and misuse of official records.

The FBR stated that Mr. Khalid was initially suspended in June 2016 and later reinstated in December 2021 due to delays caused by the non-availability of records with the department, as the material was in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Fresh disciplinary proceedings were then initiated under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules, 2020.

After the FIA forensic record was received in August 2025, a detailed inquiry was completed. The inquiry officer concluded that the inspector had accessed FBR’s e-portal without authorization, downloaded data of 134 taxpayers, and prepared illegal notices, summons and orders by misusing the names and designations of senior officers. The inquiry also found that he occupied an office room without approval and maintained both electronic and physical taxpayer records for personal motives.

The FBR said the accused failed to provide convincing evidence in his defense and could not refute the inquiry findings. After issuing a show-cause notice and providing a personal hearing, the competent authority confirmed the charges.

As a result, the major penalty of “Removal from Service” has been imposed with immediate effect. The FBR reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against misuse of taxpayer data and misconduct by tax officials.
