Instagram has expanded its Instagram for TV app to Samsung Smart TVs in the United States, extending availability beyond Amazon Fire TV and Google TV devices as the platform continues to push into living room entertainment.
The expansion covers Samsung televisions from 2020 models onward, allowing users to access Instagram content directly on larger screens without relying solely on mobile devices.
Instagram first launched its TV app in December last year on Amazon Fire TV devices in the US before expanding to Google TV in February. The latest rollout marks the platform’s widest TV expansion to date.
Reels, Stories and Casting Features
The Instagram for TV app allows users to watch Stories from friends and creators, while also offering curated viewing channels focused on interests such as comedy, sports, and creator content.
Users can also cast Reels and saved videos from their smartphones to compatible TV devices, although casting support currently remains limited to Google TV and Fire TV platforms.
New Features Under Testing
Alongside the Samsung TV expansion, Instagram said it is testing new features aimed at improving content discovery and shared viewing experiences.
The platform is experimenting with topic-based channels, improved content organization, and new ways to surface creator videos designed specifically for larger screens.
Instagram is also exploring several new content formats for TV viewing, including longer-form creator videos, episodic series, and live streaming experiences intended to enhance real-time engagement.
These initiatives reflect Instagram’s broader effort to adapt short-form mobile content for television audiences, while providing creators with additional ways to reach viewers outside traditional smartphone usage.
The company said it plans to roll out additional TV-focused features in the future as it continues to expand its presence across smart TV ecosystems.
