A notable highlight of iOS 18 is the introduction of Apple Intelligence, an AI feature exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This feature will remain in beta even after the official launch of iOS 18, underscoring Apple’s commitment to refining its AI capabilities.
The exclusion of Apple Intelligence from older models is due to hardware limitations, as only the A17 Pro chipset in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max can support the demanding AI tasks.
The A17 Pro chipset boasts a Neural Engine capable of delivering up to 35 trillion operations per second (TOPS), more than double the 17 TOPS offered by the A16 Bionic. This substantial leap in computing power is essential for handling complex AI processes, some of which will run on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, while others will be processed directly on the device.
Beyond AI, iOS 18 brings enhanced communication tools, including text effects and emoji reactions, enriching the user experience in messaging apps. The addition of RCS aims to bridge the gap between iPhone and Android users, offering a more seamless and feature-rich messaging platform.
Additionally, the new integrated password manager enhances security by simplifying the process of storing and retrieving passwords. Improved customization options allow users to personalize their iPhones to a greater extent, catering to individual preferences and usage habits.
With these advancements, iOS 18 promises to deliver a more intelligent, secure, and personalized user experience, reinforcing Apple’s position at the forefront of mobile technology.
