Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17e is set to receive a notable upgrade next year, according to a new research note from analyst Jeff Pu.
The entry-level iPhone in the 2026 lineup will reportedly feature the same 18MP selfie camera found in the rest of the iPhone 17 series, marking a significant enhancement for Apple’s most affordable model.
The 18MP front camera was first introduced with the iPhone 17 family, and Apple’s decision to extend this premium feature to the budget-friendly iPhone 17e so soon is somewhat surprising. Historically, Apple has reserved major camera improvements for its standard and Pro models, often delaying such upgrades for lower-tier devices. This shift signals that Apple may be placing more emphasis on offering consistent camera performance across its lineup.
One of the standout features of the new 18MP selfie camera is its square sensor design. This unique layout allows users to snap vertical and horizontal selfies without physically rotating the phone.
