Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 lineup is shaping up to bring major camera improvements, according to a new report from JP Morgan analysts.
Just hours after leaks suggested that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would sport smaller hole-punch designs for their front cameras, it now appears that all iPhone 18 models will include a significant selfie camera upgrade.
Higher Resolution Selfie Camera
The report claims that the entire iPhone 18 lineup will feature a new 24MP selfie camera — a notable jump from the 18MP front camera found on the current generation. This enhancement promises sharper, more detailed selfies and improved low-light performance. Interestingly, this upgrade was originally rumored for the iPhone 17 series but was reportedly delayed until next year’s models.
Under-Display Face ID and iPhone Fold
In addition to the improved resolution, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to introduce under-display Face ID technology, reducing the size of the front camera cutout and offering a cleaner, edge-to-edge viewing experience. The upcoming iPhone Fold is also said to feature a 24MP under-display selfie camera for its foldable screen, marking Apple’s entry into advanced display integration.
Entry Models Retain 12MP Sensor
While the flagship models receive these high-end upgrades, the iPhone 17e and iPhone 18e are expected to retain the 12MP selfie sensor, keeping costs down for the more affordable variants.
Launch Timeline
According to the report, Apple plans to unveil the iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026. The standard iPhone 18 and the budget-friendly iPhone 18e are expected to launch later, in spring 2027.
If the reports prove accurate, Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup will not only elevate front camera quality but also mark a major step toward fully seamless display technology — a move likely to set new standards for flagship smartphones in 2026 and beyond.
