Islamabad, January 17, 2026 — The Inland Revenue Service Officers Association (IRSOA) has expressed serious concern over efforts to register a First Information Report (FIR) against a serving Inland Revenue Commissioner over allegations of using threatening language toward a lawyer.
According to IRSOA, a writ petition was filed under Section 22B of Pakistan’s Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) seeking the registration of an FIR. The Lahore High Court has since granted a stay on the matter, temporarily halting further action.
In a statement, the association placed on record its strong and unwavering support for the concerned commissioner, describing the officer as professional, dedicated, and committed to performing official duties strictly in accordance with the law and established procedures. IRSOA emphasized that officers entrusted with sensitive statutory responsibilities should not be exposed to what it termed as malicious or retaliatory actions aimed at undermining their authority through the misuse of criminal proceedings.
At the same time, the association reaffirmed its respect for the rule of law and the judicial process, stating that all allegations must be assessed objectively and fairly through due process. IRSOA maintained that no officer should face condemnation or penalties without a proper inquiry and adjudication by the relevant legal forum.
The association also urged the concerned authorities to adopt effective measures to ensure institutional protection for the commissioner and other officers who act in good faith while discharging their official responsibilities.
IRSOA concluded by reiterating its commitment to stand by its members, extend lawful and institutional support, and fully cooperate with any impartial, transparent, and lawful investigation conducted by competent authorities.
