Deputy Prime Minister directs authorities to ensure smooth token redemption, timely payments and round-the-clock support for consumers and fuel stations.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy to assess the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme after its nationwide rollout.

The meeting focused on the progress of the fuel subsidy initiative and examined the response following its launch across the country. Officials briefed the committee on key operational matters, including beneficiary registration, token redemption and the payment process for participating fuel stations.

During the meeting, Ishaq Dar directed the authorities to strengthen the mechanism for addressing complaints and resolving technical issues faced by consumers and fuel stations. He called for a dedicated support system operating around the clock to ensure that problems are addressed without unnecessary delays.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that eligible citizens holding valid fuel relief tokens should not face difficulties while availing themselves of the facility. He directed the relevant authorities to ensure that no valid token holder is refused and that the relief reaches its intended beneficiaries efficiently.

The instructions come as the government continues efforts to ensure the smooth implementation of the fuel subsidy programme following its nationwide introduction. The committee also reviewed coordination between federal and provincial authorities involved in the scheme.

The meeting was attended by the federal ministers for Petroleum, Economic Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, and IT and Telecommunication. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa also participated in the meeting.

Senior officials from key institutions were also present, including the Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and Secretary Petroleum.

Additional Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Sindh, along with senior representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad Capital Territory and other relevant federal and provincial departments, also attended the session.

The committee’s review highlights the government’s focus on resolving operational challenges and improving access to the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme for eligible citizens across Pakistan.
