State Bank of Pakistan says social media reports about the withdrawal and exchange deadline of the Rs10 note are baseless.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a clarification regarding reports circulating on social media about the alleged discontinuation of the Rs10 banknote. The central bank has categorically rejected the reports, stating that there is no decision to discontinue the denomination or set a deadline for its exchange.
According to the SBP, the information being shared online regarding the withdrawal of the Rs10 currency note and a supposed last date for exchanging it is baseless and has no substance. The central bank advised the public not to rely on unverified information circulating through social media platforms.
The clarification comes as discussions continue regarding the possible introduction of a new series of Pakistani banknotes. The SBP confirmed that it has submitted a proposal for a new banknote series, which is currently under consideration by the Federal Cabinet.
However, the central bank stressed that the matter remains under deliberation. No decision has been taken so far regarding the replacement or discontinuation of the Rs10 banknote or any other denomination currently in circulation.
The SBP further explained that if any decision is eventually taken to replace or discontinue a banknote denomination, the public will be informed through the central bank’s official communication channels.
The statement also clarified that citizens would be provided adequate time to exchange any banknotes that are officially discontinued. This means there is currently no officially announced deadline requiring people to exchange their Rs10 notes.
The State Bank has therefore urged citizens to verify currency-related information through its official channels and avoid relying on social media posts or unverified claims.
The clarification is particularly relevant as rumors surrounding currency notes can create unnecessary concern among the public. For now, the Rs10 banknote remains unaffected, and there is no official announcement regarding its discontinuation or exchange deadline.
