Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad — The administration of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has officially declared two public holidays on April 9 and April 10, 2026, according to a notification issued on Wednesday. The decision applies to most government offices operating within the capital’s jurisdiction, while essential services will remain fully functional.

The announcement was made by the Office of the District Magistrate, confirming that both Thursday and Friday will be observed as holidays across the federal capital. However, key institutions responsible for public welfare and infrastructure have been exempted from the closure directive to ensure uninterrupted services for residents.

Departments that will continue operations include the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration, Municipal Corporation Islamabad, Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Police, Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and all public and private hospitals. Staff in these sectors will remain on duty to maintain continuity in critical services.

Officials stated that the move aims to streamline administrative operations during the specified period while ensuring that citizens continue to have access to essential facilities. The decision comes at a time of heightened diplomatic activity involving Pakistan on the global stage.

The development follows a significant breakthrough in international diplomacy, where Pakistan played a key mediating role in easing tensions between the United States and Iran. According to reports, Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran shortly before a critical deadline concerning the Strait of Hormuz.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced that Islamabad will host delegations from both nations on April 10 for high-level talks aimed at reaching a lasting agreement. In a statement shared on X, he expressed gratitude to both sides and emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating peace.

Pakistan’s growing diplomatic engagement has positioned it as a crucial intermediary between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks. Officials remain hopeful that the upcoming “Islamabad Talks” will lead to sustainable peace and further positive developments in the region.
