The Islamabad authorities have released the schedule for winter holidays in schools and educational institutions within the federal capital.

As per the notification issued on Friday, all public and private schools in Islamabad will remain closed from December 21, 2024 (Saturday) to January 5, 2025.

Winter break schedules have also been announced for educational institutions in other provinces.

In Punjab, schools will close for winter vacations starting December 23 and will reopen on January 13, 2025. Sindh’s education department has scheduled the winter holidays from December 21 to December 31, affecting both public and private schools.

Balochistan, experiencing colder weather earlier, began winter vacations on December 16, 2024. According to the Balochistan Education Department, schools, colleges, and universities in 20 districts, including Quetta, will remain closed from December 16.

Institutions in colder regions will extend their break until February 28, 2025, while schools in relatively warmer areas will observe a 10-day vacation from January 1 to January 10.

The seasonal chill has taken hold across Pakistan, with many areas experiencing cold weather and intermittent snowfall, particularly in northern hilly regions.

These climatic conditions have necessitated adjustments in academic calendars to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Parents and guardians are advised to stay updated on the specific schedules and ensure that children utilize their break effectively, keeping in mind the weather forecasts and any further updates from local authorities.

The winter holidays offer students a much-needed break to rest and recharge after a busy academic term. Educational experts encourage parents to help children engage in productive activities during this period, such as reading, skill-building, and physical exercise, to balance relaxation with learning. For many families, this is also a time to travel to scenic northern areas and enjoy the snowfall, contributing to local tourism.

Meanwhile, authorities in colder regions continue to monitor weather conditions, ensuring schools reopen safely as scheduled. With winter intensifying, residents are advised to take precautions and follow weather alerts to stay safe during this season.
