Islamabad anticipates spectacular thunderstorms on May 29, 2025

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, May 28, 2025 – A dramatic change is about to electrify the skies over Islamabad! The serene capital is on high alert as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts a powerful spell of thunderstorms to strike on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Citizens are being urged to prepare for nature’s fury as dark clouds gather over the capital.

According to the PMD’s latest weather advisory, Islamabad is expected to experience partly cloudy conditions throughout Thursday, but by evening and night, the atmosphere will take a sharp turn. A surge of rain-windstorms and thunderstorms is anticipated to sweep through Islamabad, with a 45% chance of a downpour punctuated by strong winds and possibly lightning. This weather shift is linked to a westerly wave currently impacting the western and upper regions of Pakistan.

Today, on May 28, the capital has endured scorching heat, with Islamabad simmering under hot and dry conditions during the daytime. However, by nightfall, some relief may arrive in the form of gusty winds and partly cloudy skies—a prelude to what is shaping up to be a turbulent Thursday.

The national outlook mirrors this brewing storm. While much of Pakistan remains under the grip of dry and intense heat, isolated regions in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are bracing for thunderstorms, particularly during evening hours. Notably, areas around Islamabad and the Pothohar Plateau are in the direct path of this weather activity. The PMD has also warned of isolated heavyfalls in northern areas, especially in Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the past 24 hours, the capital has already felt the early tremors of this atmospheric drama. Islamabad recorded 17mm of rainfall at its airport and 1mm in Golra. Surrounding cities like Murree and Rawalpindi experienced light showers, signaling the storm’s gradual approach.

As Islamabad gears up for another intense episode of thunderstorms, residents are advised to stay vigilant. Such weather events not only disrupt daily routines but can also impact transportation, power infrastructure, and public safety. Whether you’re planning to travel or simply stepping outside, the looming thunderstorms over Islamabad demand caution—and perhaps, a sense of awe at nature’s raw power.
