Islamabad Awaits Light Rain in Sunday’s Chilly Weather

Islamabad, January 18, 2025 – The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, is bracing for light rain in cold weather conditions on Sunday, January 19, 2025. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city and its surrounding areas will experience cloudy skies with chances of light rainfall, adding to the already chilly winter ambiance.

For Saturday, January 18, the PMD has forecasted cold and partly cloudy weather in Islamabad. Nationally, various regions in Balochistan, including Chagai, Nushki, Kharan, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Quetta, have been put on alert for potential flash flooding due to rain on the night of January 18 and the morning of January 19.

Additionally, moderate to heavy snowfall is anticipated in areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, and Qilla Saifullah. This may result in road closures and slippery conditions, posing challenges for travel during the forecast period.

Synoptic Outlook

A westerly weather system is currently affecting the western regions of the country and is expected to move towards upper parts by Saturday night, bringing precipitation to multiple areas.

Saturday’s Forecast:

The PMD predicts mainly cold and dry weather for most regions, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in hilly areas. Rain or snow is expected in northwestern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat. Moderate to dense fog in patches will likely persist across Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sunday’s Outlook:

Sunday will see a continuation of cold and dry weather across the country. However, areas like Islamabad, the Pothohar region, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and hilly regions such as Murree and Galliyat may experience rain or snowfall. Foggy conditions are expected during the morning and night hours in Punjab, upper Sindh, and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Past 24-Hour Conditions

Over the last 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country. In hilly areas, conditions were very cold and partly cloudy. Dense fog impacted travel in Punjab and upper Sindh.

The lowest recorded temperatures include Leh at -11°C, Skardu at -9°C, and Gupis at -7°C, with other areas like Astore, Kalam, and Kalat ranging between -6°C and -3°C.
