Islamabad, December 22, 2024 – Islamabad, the serene capital of Pakistan, is gearing up for a fresh cold spell as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts chilly weather accompanied by a chance of drizzle.

Over the next three days, temperatures in Islamabad are expected to hover around -1°C. Residents should prepare for colder conditions, particularly during the night and early morning hours. According to the PMD, the following weather conditions are anticipated in Islamabad:

Sunday (Night): Mainly cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in Islamabad and its surroundings. There is a 20% probability of drizzle occurring at isolated spots.

Monday: The forecast predicts cold and partly cloudy weather in Islamabad and adjacent areas. Drizzle may occur at scattered locations, with a 25% likelihood during the day.

Synoptic Situation: Continental air is dominating most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave continues to affect upper regions and is gradually moving eastward. This phenomenon contributes to the chilly conditions in Islamabad.

Sunday: Mainly cold and dry weather will prevail across the country, with very cold conditions in hilly regions. However, partly cloudy skies with light rain or snowfall are likely in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and adjoining mountainous areas. Smog and fog patches are anticipated in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh.

Monday: The weather will remain cold and dry in most areas, with very cold temperatures expected in hilly regions during the morning and night. Islamabad might experience partly cloudy conditions with light drizzle, while isolated rain or snowfall could occur in Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and northeast Punjab. Smog and fog will persist in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during early and late hours.

Past 24 Hours Weather: Cold and dry weather was dominant across the country, with very cold conditions in hilly regions. Islamabad experienced a crisp yet dry day, typical for this time of year. Smog and fog lingered in select plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh, impacting visibility during night and morning hours.

Today’s Lowest Temperatures (in °C): Skardu -11, Gilgit -08, Gupis -07, Leh -07, Bagrote -05, and Kalat -05. Islamabad’s lowest temperature stayed above freezing, highlighting the city’s milder yet cold conditions compared to hilly areas.

Stay warm and drive cautiously, especially in foggy areas near Islamabad, during the coming days.
