Islamabad, January 6, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory for Islamabad, warning that temperatures are expected to drop to near or below freezing levels over the next 48 hours as cold continental air continues to grip the region.
According to the PMD forecast, cold weather conditions will prevail in Islamabad and its surrounding areas on Tuesday. Patchy fog may develop during nighttime, potentially affecting visibility in low-lying areas and on major roads. On Wednesday, the cold spell is expected to persist, with fog likely to form during both morning and night hours, increasing the risk of travel disruptions.
At the national level, the PMD reported that continental air is dominating most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave is present over Kashmir and is expected to move eastward. As a result, cold and dry weather will continue across most regions on both Tuesday and Wednesday, with very cold conditions expected in hilly and mountainous areas. Fog is likely in parts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across much of Pakistan, while upper regions experienced very cold and cloudy conditions. Dense fog affected several districts of Punjab, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Sindh, and Islamabad. Light rain was recorded at isolated locations in Kashmir, Murree, and coastal areas of Balochistan, with light snowfall reported in Murree.
The lowest minimum temperatures recorded included Leh at minus 11°C, Ziarat at minus 9°C, and Astore at minus 8°C, highlighting the intensity of the ongoing cold wave.
