Islamabad, July 3, 2025 — Get your umbrellas ready! The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, is expected to experience a fresh spell of thundershowers over the next 48 hours, according to the latest advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday.
The PMD has predicted a 40% chance of thundershower activity in Islamabad on both July 3 and July 4. While the skies may remain partly cloudy at times, residents should prepare for potential rain, gusty winds, and the possibility of lightning strikes during the forecast window.
“Moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are actively penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan,” said Mehr Fatima, a forecasting officer at PMD. “Additionally, a westerly wave is influencing weather patterns in the north, increasing the likelihood of thundershowers in Islamabad and surrounding regions.”
Thursday Forecast:
Rain-wind/thundershower activity is likely across several regions, including Upper and South Punjab, the Potohar Plateau, southeastern Sindh, northeastern and southern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Isolated heavyfalls are also anticipated in upper Punjab and southern Balochistan.
Friday Outlook:
The chances of thundershower extend into Friday, with similar regions remaining under threat of stormy weather. Islamabad, in particular, may continue to receive rain and thundershower spells, making it crucial for citizens to remain cautious, especially during travel or outdoor activities.
Last 24 Hours Recap:
Islamabad witnessed light rain at several locations, including 6 mm at the airport and 1 mm at Golra and Zeropoint. Rain-thundershower activity was also recorded in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
