Islamabad Braces for Thundershowers on August 25, 2025

Weather Forecast Thundershowers

Islamabad, August 24, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more thundershowers for the federal capital as a powerful monsoon system continues to grip northern parts of the country.

The latest advisory indicates that Islamabad and its surrounding areas may experience intermittent rain accompanied by gusty winds and lightning over the next two days, with chances of heavy downpours at isolated spots.

According to PMD, Sunday’s weather in Islamabad is expected to remain partly cloudy, with periods of rain, wind, and thundershowers likely during the evening and night. On Monday, the probability of rain-wind-thundershowers remains at 55 percent, with the potential for heavy showers in some areas, increasing the risk of urban flooding in low-lying zones.

National Weather Warning

The PMD issued a detailed warning for multiple regions across Pakistan. Torrential rains could trigger flash floods in streams and nullahs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, and northeastern Punjab, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Urban flooding risks have been highlighted for major cities, while landslides and mudslides are likely in hilly terrains, potentially disrupting road networks.

Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and lightning may damage weak structures, including rooftops, signboards, and solar panels. The public, tourists, and travelers have been urged to remain cautious and stay informed about updated weather conditions.

Synoptic Situation

Meteorologists attribute the intense spell to a seasonal low over northern Balochistan and strong monsoon currents flowing from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, reinforced by a westerly wave impacting upper and central Pakistan.

Past Weather Trends

During the past 24 hours, rain-wind-thundershowers with heavy falls were recorded in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and parts of Sindh. In Islamabad, significant rainfall was noted, with 70mm at the airport and 64mm in Saidpur Village.

Outlook

Weather experts expect wet conditions to persist in the capital for the next few days, keeping temperatures moderate but humidity levels high. The PMD will issue fresh updates as the monsoon system evolves.
