Islamabad, August 17, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across much of the country, with the capital city Islamabad preparing for heavy downpours on Monday, August 18, 2025.
According to the official weather advisory, Islamabad will face heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms during the next 24 hours, with short breaks in between spells. Authorities have warned residents to remain alert to the risk of waterlogging, power disruptions, and possible urban flooding in low-lying parts of the city.
Punjab: Most districts are expected to witness significant rainfall and thunderstorms, particularly in the Potohar and northeastern belt. Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin may experience heavy to very heavy spells, raising concerns about urban flooding. Central and southern Punjab, including Multan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Sahiwal, are forecast to see scattered thunderstorms, while Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan could experience lighter rainfall.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Northern and upper KP districts such as Swat, Dir, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, and Malakand are expected to receive heavy rainfall, with a high risk of landslides and flash floods in mountainous terrain. The Peshawar valley—including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, and Swabi—will likely see scattered showers, while southern KP districts, including D.I. Khan, Bannu, Tank, Karak, and Kohat, may experience scattered rainfall with occasional heavyfalls.
Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK): Districts including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber are forecast to receive heavy rain and thunderstorms, which may trigger landslides in hilly areas.
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB): Isolated showers are expected in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, and Astore, with potential for debris flows and localized flooding in valleys.
Sindh: Coastal districts such as Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, and Tharparkar may experience scattered rainfall or thunderstorms, while upper Sindh including Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad could face moderate to heavy showers amid hot and humid conditions.
Balochistan: Eastern and coastal districts like Gwadar, Turbat, Lasbela, and Khuzdar are expected to receive scattered rainfall, while Quetta, Zhob, and Ziarat may see light showers.
The PMD has advised the public, especially travelers and tourists, to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary exposure to vulnerable areas during this active monsoon spell.
