Islamabad, December 21, 2024 – The capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad, is enduring freezing conditions as a persistent cold wave grips the region. The biting chill has left residents bundling up to face plummeting temperatures while the city braces for continued frosty weather.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cold and cloudy weather is expected in Islamabad and surrounding areas on Sunday, December 22, 2024. On Saturday, December 21, the forecast for Islamabad includes cold and dry conditions during the day, with partly cloudy skies anticipated in the evening and nighttime hours.

On a national scale, the PMD noted that continental air remains dominant over most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave is expected to impact the western and upper regions starting Saturday evening. This system is likely to bring colder and cloudier conditions to affected areas.

For Islamabad, the next few days appear to follow this chilly trend. The PMD predicts that Sunday will maintain the cold and dry pattern, with upper parts of the country experiencing particularly cold and cloudy weather. Additionally, patches of fog are expected in Islamabad and other plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during nighttime and early morning hours.

During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed across most of Pakistan, with very cold conditions reported in the hilly regions. Islamabad experienced similar frigid conditions, while moderate to dense fog blanketed parts of Punjab, disrupting visibility and causing travel concerns.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded nationwide include Leh at -13°C, Skardu at -11°C, and Gupis at -9°C. Several other northern and mountainous areas also reported sub-zero temperatures. Though Islamabad’s temperatures were not as extreme, the city remains under the grip of a cold spell, making daily life challenging for its residents.

As Islamabad continues to freeze, locals are advised to prepare for the ongoing cold wave by taking precautions and staying updated on weather forecasts, especially during nighttime and morning hours when temperatures are at their lowest.
