Islamabad likely to receive thunderstorm on May 12, 2025

Islamabad, May 11, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the possibility of a thunderstorm in Islamabad on Monday, May 12, 2025, with a 40% chance of occurrence.

The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy, with isolated areas likely to experience gusty winds or a thunderstorm, particularly in the afternoon or evening.

The PMD stated that the capital and its surrounding regions may face intermittent weather disturbances on Monday, as atmospheric conditions indicate increased moisture and instability. While the forecast does not guarantee widespread rainfall, the department advises residents to remain alert, especially in low-lying areas or during outdoor activities. The thunderstorm activity could be accompanied by brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and occasional lightning.

On Sunday, May 11, the weather remained hot and partly cloudy in Islamabad, with the PMD reporting chances of dust and windstorms in various areas. Daytime temperatures soared, making outdoor conditions somewhat uncomfortable due to high UV exposure and dry winds.

Adding weight to the local forecast, global weather service AccuWeather also projected a thunderstorm for May 12 in Islamabad. According to its outlook, the day is expected to start with variable cloudiness, followed by increasing humidity and the development of a thunderstorm during the afternoon hours. AccuWeather’s forecast places the probability of precipitation at 58%, suggesting a stronger likelihood than the PMD’s estimate.

Daytime temperatures on Monday are likely to hover around 33°C, with “RealFeel” temperatures reaching up to 36°C, due to elevated humidity and moderate winds from the south. The UV index will remain at an extreme level of 11, indicating a need for sun protection if venturing outdoors. Winds are expected to blow at around 11 km/h, adding to the potential for gusty conditions during the thunderstorm.

Tuesday, May 13, is expected to return to hot and sunny conditions, with no signs of further storm activity. However, residents should take necessary precautions for May 12, as a thunderstorm remains a distinct possibility in Islamabad and its neighboring areas.
