In a major step toward sustainable mobility, Islamabad Police has become the first federal department in Pakistan to officially induct a New Energy Vehicle (NEV) fleet into its operations. The fleet, comprising BYD Atto 2 and BYD Sealion 7, was delivered by global EV leader BYD in collaboration with its local partner Mega Motor Company.

The induction ceremony was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, highlighting the government’s push toward eco-friendly transportation solutions. Senior officials including Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi and Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk were also present at the event.

The newly inducted electric vehicles will be deployed for traffic patrol and official duties across the capital. Authorities expect the shift to significantly reduce reliance on conventional fuel, lower operational costs, and promote emission-free transportation within routine policing activities.

This initiative comes at a time when Pakistan is facing rising fuel prices and economic pressures, making energy-efficient solutions increasingly important for public sector operations. By transitioning to electric vehicles, Islamabad Police aims to ensure cost stability while contributing to environmental protection.

Officials described the move as a reflection of the government’s broader vision for a greener and more sustainable Pakistan. “The integration of electric vehicles marks a key milestone in reducing fuel dependency and adopting environmentally responsible practices,” an official said.

Danish Khaliq, Vice President of Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan–Mega Motor Company, termed the development a significant milestone for electric mobility in the country.

The initiative is expected to pave the way for further expansion of NEV adoption across government departments as Pakistan accelerates its transition toward clean energy transportation.
