Islamabad, July 27, 2025 – The capital city is bracing for monsoon thundershowers on Monday, July 28, 2025, as forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
According to the latest PMD advisory, Islamabad is expected to experience partly cloudy to hot and humid conditions during the day, with a 55% chance of rain, wind, and thundershowers in the evening or night.
The PMD noted that the current monsoon pattern is being influenced by a seasonal low over northwest Balochistan, with moist currents from the Arabian Sea making their way into the eastern and lower regions of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is present over the northern areas, which may contribute to increased monsoon activity.
On Sunday night, similar monsoon weather was observed in Islamabad, with conditions remaining humid and partly cloudy. The chance of localized thundershowers stood at 40%, as moisture-laden winds interacted with the regional terrain.
The monsoon system is expected to affect several parts of the country on Monday, including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North-Eastern Punjab, South-Eastern Sindh, and the Potohar region. However, Islamabad remains one of the key urban centers likely to witness evening monsoon showers, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather dominated most of Pakistan, although rain and thundershowers were recorded in parts of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Notable rainfall included 14mm in Dir and 2mm in Malam Jabba.
Monday’s forecast suggests a continuation of hot conditions across the country, with the potential for scattered monsoon rains. In Islamabad, residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions as the monsoon system advances. The upcoming thundershowers may provide much-needed respite but could also bring localized disruptions due to sudden downpours typical of the monsoon season.
