Islamabad scorched by blazing sunshine as heatwave intensifies

Hot and Dry Weather

Islamabad, May 15, 2025 – The capital city of Pakistan is currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with blazing sunshine gripping the region and no signs of relief in the coming days.

Residents of Islamabad are being urged to stay indoors and take necessary precautions as temperatures continue to soar under relentless sunshine.

According to forecasts from AccuWeather, Islamabad is bracing for dangerously high temperatures through the weekend. On Thursday, the mercury is expected to hit a scorching 47°C, with a RealFeel® of 49°C. Blazing sunshine will dominate the skies, accompanied by a dangerously high UV index of 11, which falls in the “extreme” category. Winds from the west-southwest at 13 km/h will offer little relief from the oppressive conditions.

Friday and Saturday will bring no respite. Temperatures are predicted to hover around 42°C during the day, with nighttime lows remaining uncomfortably high. The forecast warns of continued blazing sunshine, increasing the risk of dehydration and heatstroke for those exposed to the outdoors for prolonged periods. RealFeel® temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 40s, with RealFeel® Shade™ readings also staying above 40°C, underlining the severity of the heat even in sheltered areas.

Sunday is expected to follow the same pattern, with highs again reaching 42°C and lows creeping up to 28°C. The persistent sunshine and blazing heat will keep conditions extremely dangerous, particularly for the old-age, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Islamabad’s authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, remain hydrated, and stay in cool, shaded environments during peak hours. Public health warnings have been issued, emphasizing the dangers of heat-related illnesses, especially under such intense blazing sunshine.

As the blazing sun continues to dominate Islamabad’s skies, the city remains on high alert. With no rainfall or cloud cover in sight, the capital is expected to remain under the grip of extreme heat and blazing conditions well into the new week.
